Once upon a time, in a muddy forest, there lived a bear named Fuzzy. Fuzzy was known for his love of honey, but he was terribly clumsy. Every time he tried to get honey from a beehive, he ended up covered in stings and leaves. One day, Fuzzy had an idea. “I’ll dress up as a bee, and the bees will give me honey!” he rejoiced. He found yellow feathers, stuck them to his fur, and put twigs on his head as antennae.
When he came to the beehive in the tree, the bees recognized him right away but decided not to tell him. Instead, they challenged him: “If you’re a bee, show us how you can fly!” Fuzzy began to sweat with fear. Drops of sweat rolled down his furry coat. He knew bears couldn’t fly, but he didn’t want to give himself away. Finally, he gathered his courage and jumped from the tree. “Bzz… um… GROWL!” he roared, but instead of flying, he fell down like a pear with a loud “THUMP!” A big bump immediately appeared on his head. The bees laughed so hard they could barely buzz. “Fuzzy, you shouldn’t try to outsmart and trick us,” they said.
Suddenly, a strong wind began to blow. A stick hit the beehive so awkwardly that it looked like it might fall. Brave Fuzzy, despite his bump, quickly climbed the tree. He took the hive in his paws and used tree sap to stick it to a safer spot on another tree.
The bees were very grateful and rewarded Fuzzy with a jar of honey. Fuzzy learned that it’s better to help the bees than to try to trick and steal from them. From that day on, whenever Fuzzy craved honey, he asked the bees what he could do for them in exchange for a jar of honey. The bees always found some bigger or smaller task for him. And they never forgot how the honey-loving bear saved their hive.
