In a forest that smelled like blueberries and where the wind whistled through the trees, there lived a bear named Medik. Medik was not an ordinary bear. He had such a big heart that he could hug the whole world – and he didn’t expect anything back. He just helped because it felt completely normal. Just like trees grow or clouds float.
Medik loved his days full of walks, finding blueberry bushes, resting by the stream, and lots of sunny naps.
One day, he went to pick blueberries. In the bushes, he saw a little hedgehog with a big purple blueberry stuck on his nose. Medik stopped and asked:
“Why do you have that blueberry on your nose, Hedgehog?”
The hedgehog took a deep breath and started to tell his story:
“I was chasing a little bug. I ran, zig-zagged, and almost caught it… when suddenly I slipped on moss! I tumbled down the hill. One roll, two rolls, and BUMP – into the bushes! And one blueberry got stuck on my pointy nose. And I can’t get it off!”
Medik was surprised: “How long are you going to keep that blueberry there?”
The hedgehog sighed.
“Well, I would take it off right away, but a little stone fell on my paw and I can’t wiggle it off.”
Medik looked at him kindly. “Do you want me to move the stone from your paw?”
The hedgehog nodded.
Medik carefully lifted the stone and freed the hedgehog’s paw. The hedgehog stretched his little paws, took the blueberry off his nose, and happily ate it.
“Mmm, yummy! Thank you, little bear!” laughed the hedgehog.
“You’re welcome, I like helping,” said Medik.
They sat in the bushes for a while, talked, laughed, and picked blueberries. Finally, Medik said:
“My tummy is full. I’ll go wash my paws in the pond.”
They said goodbye, tapped their paws, and Medik went down to the pond to clean his paws and nose.
At the pond, Medik leaned over the water and saw a little frog named Jofka. She ran, jumped with her legs, and HOP! – landed on a lily pad.
“Slip, slip, sliiip!” The lily pad wobbled, Jofka slid, and SPLASH! – she fell into the water.
Jofka swam back to the shore, shook herself, and tried again. But again – “slip, slip!” – she slid and fell into the water.
“Blub-blub!” she popped up, but she didn’t give up. She swam back to the shore to try one more time.
Medik was curious. “Jofka, what are you doing?”
“I want to jump from this lily pad all the way to the other side of the pond. But it’s so slippery! I keep sliding off,” the frog puffed.
“Can I try?” asked Medik. Jofka nodded.
Medik ran, jumped… BUMP! The whole lily pad sank, and Medik went under with it. He popped up with the lily pad on his head. They both laughed.
“Hey! Do you want to jump over my head instead of the lily pad?” asked Medik.
“Yes!” shouted Ghofka.
Jofka ran, jumped, and HOP! – she landed on Medik’s fluffy head. And what do you know – his fur bounced her so high, she flew far away. Both of them stared, mouths open.
“How is that possible?” they laughed.
“Medik! Your fur is like a trampoline!” said Jofka.
“Can I try again?” she asked.
“Of course!” smiled Medik.
She ran and jumped on his head again – and again, the fur bounced her far over the water. They laughed and laughed until the water rippled and the blueberry bushes shook.
Finally, Jofka said, “That was the most fun jumping ever! Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. I had fun too,” said Medik.
Jofka hopped away, and Medik went to a sunny meadow to enjoy an afternoon nap.
He lay in the sun, with a full tummy, clean paws, and flowers swaying around him. The sun warmed his fluffy fur, and Medik smiled happily. He felt so good that he slowly fell asleep, dreaming of more blueberries, funny ideas, and the laughter of his forest friends.
